Save data according to how you use them

Choose objects, blocks or archives; includes levels, access, persistence and recovery.

Photos of products, server discs and shared folders contain bytes but are used in different ways. The choice starts with the access pattern, and doesn't come with what service looks cheapest.

Key concepts

Object Storage It keeps objects identified by name in buckets and is consumed with apis. An object includes data and metadata. The namespace provides a Object Storage name space for tenancy; The picket brings together objects. A key as productos/foto.jpg may appear as a path but does not convert the bucket into a disc mounted with file system semantics.

Block Volume introduces storage blocks to an instance: the operating system can create a file system and use it as a disk. File Storage offers an NFS-accessible shared file system. Several customers can work with files using a mount target and appropriate export and network rules.

Durability tries to preserve data; availability, to be able to gain access as necessary. Replication keeps copies for resilience while a backup Reforms an earlier state. If you answer an accidental disposal, today's copies can reflect them: replication does not replace backrest.

Some shapes include Local NVMewith low latency and high performance. They do not have the same managed protection as Block Volume: you have to design the durability and recovery of their data. A re-enersable temporary data can fit. The only copies of an order require another strategy. Query NVMe data protection. The persistence It also matters: identifies what data survive the body's life cycle and what data you have to be able to rebuild.

Object, level and access

Level Expected access Decision that matters
Standard Common, immediate access Active content and unknown patterns
Invalid Access Uncommon, immediate access Consider charges Recovery and Minimum Restraint
Archive Very rare, prior restoration Accept Recovery Waits and Restraint Conditions

Auto-Tiering moves eligible objects between Standard and Invalid Access with observed patterns. Do not move automatically to Archive. The rules of Object Lifecycle Management allow other transitions and actions as determined by conditions. They are not synonymous with Auto-Tiering. Query storage levels.

A private picket requires permission to have access. A pre-authented request (pAR) It provides secure access by means of a valid link: whoever holds that link can exercise the authorized access. A public visibility policy is a different decision. For internal data, have private access. Don't make an entire picket public to solve an app's access.

The console and OCI CLI allow you to create buckets and upload objects. At Cloud Shell you can check with the namespace with oci os ns get; an outside CLI requires its authentication configuration. When uploading a file, it identifies picket, name and region, and verifies with the identity that should be consumed. Retiring retains versions; retention and lifecycle add different controls.

Volumes and file systems

A Block Volume belongs to an AD and replies within it for durability. It does not by itself involve a usable copies in another region. Choose capacity and level of performance for IOPS's needs and throughout A large disc isn't automatically the solution to every bottle neck.

At an attached paraplegalised, OCI introduces the device with virtualization. In iSCSI, the instance is connected to the volume using the appropriate protocol. The manual configuration or agent should complete the connection. That the console shows the attached doesn't prove that there's a built-up file system. Do not form a volume with data to solve a mounting problem.

Online Resizing Expand a connected volume. The OS may then have to re-detect the capacity and extend the partition or file system. It's not an operation to reduce it. Keep going. Resizing a Volume.

At File Storage it's clear file system, mount target y export. The system contains the archives; The destination gives network access. export and their options control how customers gain access. Configure NFS and, where applicable, cipher in transit. Do not assume that simply by the fact that the data at rest are encrypted.

Step-by-step example

  1. The tent keeps original photos in a private Object Storage picket its application gets permissions specific reading.
  2. It keeps photos of regular use at Standard. For variable patterns evaluate Auto-Tiering; for rarely required historic attests Archive, accepting the restoration process.
  3. A legacy application requires a persistent disc: creates an appropriate AD Block Volume, attached and confirms its availability within the operating system.
  4. Two servers require the same report folder: it evaluates File Storage for its shared NFS access.
  5. Define recovery independently: versions or backups, retention, restoration and tests depending on data type.

The object demonstration challenges the difference between an authorized reading and an unauthorized URL. At the block level check the disc from the instance before attributing the problem to permissions IAM.

Common errors

Retirement exercise

A file will rarely be consulted, but should be delivered immediately as requested. Another is a historic that can expect a restoration. What level would you put them at? What additional cost would you review at first?

Solution

Invalid Access can suit with first. charges recovery, minimum retention and actual pattern have to be evaluated. Archive can match with the historic one that tolerates and waits. To choose only for the price for GB would ignore the access time and associated charges.
